Offsetting

All of our products come from Mexico, a country which is around 9600 km away from Germany. These products have to be transported by ship from Mexico to Europe. Unfortunately, this is currently not possible without emissions, freight transport is still responsible for more than 6 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions. What is possible is to work with responsible freight shipping partners which take climate change seriously and offset emissions. This is what we do for all VIVA BOON shipments.

Furthermore, our complete supply chain, from production to final delivery at your door, is also compensated with our reliable climate partners.

So why don't we manufacture in Europe?

Our brand is inspired by the colours and culture of Mexico. It's here where we find the origin of our designs, symbols and colours. We believe it's only fair if the communities that created this rich history benefit from it as well. This is the reason why we manufacture in Mexico. On top of that, we use a percentage of our profits to give back to the people in these communities. Helping them escape poverty is very important to us.

Recycling

You might think that natural fibres, such as cotton, would be better for the environment. We believed the same, but it turns out that although cotton is a natural fibre that can biodegrade at the end of its live, it is also one of the most environmentally demanding crops. It is very water intensive to cultivate and process cotton. Just a single T-shirt takes around 10.000 litres of water to make. Cotton production also accounts for one sixth of all pesticides used globally, impacting farmers and local communities with harmful chemicals. To be fair, most of this cotton is used by the fast fashion industry.

Our products are made for a lifetime, not a season.

When thinking about which fibres we wanted to use at VIVA BOON, we wanted something with a long lifetime that doesn't wear out or fades even after many years of use (and washing). Polyester has some of the longest lifetimes in the textile industry and is recyclable. It is just as "skin-friendly" as the natural fibre cotton. Furthermore, the fibre is dirt-repellent and does not absorb moisture, so our products can also be used outdoors. This is the reason why we made a conscious decision to use recyclable polyester fibres for our jacquard fabric.

If at some point the time comes and you want to dispose of your VIVA BOON product, you can have it 100% recycled at a recycling center near you.
